The Importer of Record (IOR) is the responsible party for the imported product into a country from a foreign country. The IOR is legally liable for payment of duties, taxes and fees and compliance with customs and other government agency regulations pertaining to imported product. The IOR is also responsible for product liability. The IOR may be the party who is buying or receiving the imported goods, or an interested party in the transaction who has the right to make entry under the customs regulations such as a customs broker.
Companies who make more than one shipment per year into a country and/or utilizing distributors or online market places such as AMAZON or Alibaba, should consider using an independent Dedicated Importer of Record (IOR) for their IOR services instead of a customs brokerage or master distributor
